Location
The City of Decatur is located inside I-285, approximately 6.5 miles east of Atlanta and just minutes west of Stone Mountain. There are three convenient MARTA stations within the city limits of Decatur and plenty of parking.

Decatur
Decatur was named after a 19th century U.S. Naval hero, Stephen Decatur. The community is still genuinely connected to its thrilling history. Some of the historic points of interest include the following:
Agnes Scott College - In 1907 this was the first school in Georgia to become fully accredited.
Decatur Cemetery - Is recognized in the National Register of Historic Places.
Decatur Railroad Depot - Constructed in 1891, the depot was a critical part of the existence of Decatur in the early years.
High House - Is recognized in the National Register of Historic Places and is noted as the first two-story home built in Decatur. Legend has it that during the Civil War General Sherman stopped here.
The M.A.K. Local Historic District - Is named after the following streets: McDonough, Adams and Kings Highway and is identified as the first residential development in Decatur.
Historic Oakhurst - In Decatur, Historic Oakhurst is known for being one of the oldest parts of the city. Here you will find the Scottish Rite Hospital- recognized in the National Register of Historic Places.
The Old Courthouse On the Square - The location for the community square was established in the early 1800ÿs. It was chosen at a mark where two Indian trails conformed. It currently serves as the home of the Dekalb History Center.
