Just a short 30-minute drive south of downtown Atlanta, Fayetteville was named in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette, who fought against the British in the American Revolutionary War.   The city has enjoyed steady growth over the past several years, the population increasing almost 30% from 2000 to 2005.

The population growth has been fueled by housing affordability, and a certain sense of small-town living close to a major metropolis.  The cityÿs courthouse, built in 1825, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the oldest surviving courthouse in Georgia.  The city holds many annual events, including the Old Courthouse Art Show, the Main Street Festival, and Christmas in Fayetteville.  In addition, the Villages Amphitheater has a summer concert series, which is always a source of good entertainment.
